My 4 yr daughter Olivia and I went for a walk the other night and she looked at me and said, “Daddy, God is in the shadows..” and I thought to myself that’s a very interesting and profound statement…
So I asked her what she meant by that and she said, “The only way to see God is through the reflections of shadows because without the shadows God becomes invisible”.
Hmmm I thought…Isn’t that interesting…that really what she was suggesting is that you can’t “see” God just with light…you also need the darkness…and when the light and the darkness meet and the shadows appear…we need to embrace (not fear, hide or dismiss) these shadows…for when we do embrace these shadows “God” emerges and can finally be “seen”(and through the eyes of this little girl)…witnessed and experienced with a profound sense of innocence and elation.
You see “shadows” are NOT just a by-product of light and darkness colliding but the reason WHY light and darkness MUST collide!
The reason so eloquently put by this little girl…so we can see “God”.
